Who is Cgaine?
I am an artist hailing from Ogun State, Nigeria, currently living in Lagos with my family. Originating from a modest household of six people instilled with strong principles, I am driven towards achieving my goals. Additionally, I appreciate both life and the natural world around us. The genres of music I specialize in include Afrobeats, Afropop, R&B, and Afro-dancehall.
How was your childhood?
I grew up in a family of six (6) consisting of my mom, dad, and three other siblings. My childhood experience was indeed an adventurous and fun one to an extent.
My upbringing occurred in various stages: I began my education at Monade School in Lagos during the elementary years, followed by attending Lagos State Model College Meiran for high school. Throughout this period, I developed an interest in organizing events and managing decorations, inspired by watching my mother handle such tasks meticulously. Although I was drawn to both music and dance, dancing wasn’t something I pursued intensely.
I loved music more and I never allowed it to get in the way of my academics as my father has always been that academic motivator for me.
I spent my childhood in various locations across Lagos and Ogun States, which gave me insights into life from multiple perspectives. My early days were split between living in neighborhoods like Ojodu and Akute until I pursued higher education in Accounting at Yaba College of Technology. Alongside my studies, I was involved in catering services and managed numerous events. Additionally, I’ve always had an appreciation for live performances; I participated significantly with the choir at The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), appearing on various platforms over many years.
Walk me through your creative journey.
For me, inspiration begins with my surroundings, current events, and the individuals in my life. Additionally, my personal experiences shape my approach. My aim is to create music that narrates stories relevant either to myself or to humanity at large. In doing so, I strive to craft catchy tunes that turn these narratives into tangible musical pieces.
