— The First Lady of Nigeria and Senator Oluremi Tinubu has committed the amount of 100 million naira via her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) to back the Five Cowries Art Education Initiative.
Late Wednesday evening, she disclosed the donation during a Charity Gala Dinner organized by the Spouses of Heads of Mission in Nigeria at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.
The First Lady emphasized the importance of the arts, encouraging Nigerians to back arts education via contributions, promotion, and collaborative alliances.
“Representing the Renewed Hope Initiative, we commit to providing ₦100 million to facilitate 5,000 art exhibits throughout Nigeria,” she declared.
She commended the Spouses of Heads of Mission for their dedication to supporting marginalized segments of society, applauding the foresight of Five Cowries’ founder, Ms. Polly Alakija, who has been committed to broadening access to arts education within underprivileged areas.
The First Lady emphasized that such innovations are essential for creating enduring effects in critical areas of our society.
As she highlighted some of her husband’s accomplishments in the education field over the past two years, the First Lady mentioned that since the inception of the Renewed Hope Initiative in 2023, the program has provided scholarships to disadvantaged students and supported learners both domestically and internationally.
She disclosed a current collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education via which more than 5,100 scholarships have been provided to female students.
She additionally pointed out the creation of 40 alternative high schools across the country aimed at offering educational opportunities for girls impacted by early pregnancy or child marriage.
She stated that over two million exercise books have been disseminated to aid primary and junior secondary education throughout the country.
