To increase the substantial exports of handcrafted rugs, official invites have been sent out to global purchasers of Pakistan’s handwoven carpets who are expected to attend the 41st International Expo happening this October.
The chairman of the Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PCMEA), Mian Atiq-ur-Rehman, along with Vice Chairman Riaz Ahmed, announced this development. According to them, local producers and exporters have shown great enthusiasm for the forthcoming international event, as evidenced by early reservations securing 45 booths over a brief period. The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) has been actively collaborating to guarantee the smooth running of the expo, ensuring all strategies align with their guidance.
At the fourth zonal committee gathering hosted at the PCMEA headquarters, Mian Atiq-ur-Rehman spoke alongside Patron-in-Chief Abdul Latif Malik, Chairperson of the Carpet Training Institute Ejaz-ur-Rehman, Major (Retd.) Akhtar Nazir, Saeed Khan, Qamar Zia, Khawaja Mir Mudasar, and several important participants. During the session, Vice Chairman and Exhibition Head Riaz Ahmed provided an update on current advancements and touched upon plans for participating in the future Shenzhen exhibition.
Atiq-ur-Rehman and Riaz Ahmed mentioned that apart from issuing official invites, international buyers are also being reached out through phone calls to confirm their attendance. All overseas visitors arriving in Pakistan will receive an extensive hospitality package. Both highlighted the critical importance of this global exposition for Pakistan’s handcrafted rug market and conveyed significant confidence that substantial export agreements would materialize during the expo, thus invigorating the segment.
The gathering likewise raised grave reservations about two recently enacted Statutory Regulatory Orders—SROs 55(1) and 69(1)—by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). It was agreed they would address these issues jointly with APTMA and FPCCI to mount a unified and powerful opposition to said rules.
