Delano Müller, a kickboxer and mixed martial artist from Walvis Bay, claimed first-place honors at the 2025 WFMC German Open Championship held in Dillenburg, Germany, on Saturday.

In the finale of the mixed martial arts competition for males in the under 65 kg division, he won against Andrii Makarenko from Ukraine by scoring more points.

“This win is dedicated to everybody who backed me, including my family, trainers, practice buddies, and those who always had faith in me,” he stated.

“I owe my presence here entirely to their support; they mean the world to me,” he stated.

Müller also made it to the finals in the men’s full-contact, low-kick division. Nonetheless, he came out as the runner-up following his loss to Germany’s Alexander Olenberg.

Müller, who recently turned 21 years old, is enthusiastic about sharing the knowledge he acquired during his training in Germany with other Namibian fighters.

He has repeatedly stressed the significance of fostering the upcoming generation of martial artists in Namibia, noting that this training chance should boost his capacity to achieve that objective.

“When I return to Namibia, my intention is to share the knowledge I’ve acquired with fellow combatants, assist up-and-coming athletes, and contribute to the development of the sport,” stated Müller.

In 2016, Müller founded his own institution called the Namibia Martial Arts Academy in Walvis Bay. The academy has more than 50 enrolled martial artists and aims to support aspiring fighters. Müller works with these individuals to enhance their skills and promote the growth of the sport within the nation.

“We emphasize instructing proper techniques, maintaining discipline, and keeping physically fit. My aim for our academy is to enhance martial arts in Namibia, inspire more children to participate, and provide them with opportunities to engage in larger tournaments,” he stated.

In December 2024, Müller reached an important landmark by claiming the WAKO Africa Continental Title in Johannesburg, South Africa. He secured this victory by beating Zimbabwean fighter Shimbashire Mlambo (32) in a 75-kg senior match.

As a distinguished martial artist and an inspiration to numerous individuals, Müller’s accomplishments have instilled significant pride within Namibia.

Müller has received accolades such as being named Namibia Junior Sportsman of the Year at the Namibia Annual Sports Awards (NASA) in 2016, 2017, and 2019.

In addition, he claimed the Sub-Saharan title for the years 2017, 2018, and 2019 during the Desert Storm tournaments and became the first competitor from Namibia to secure victory in the featherweight category at the 2019 Battle of Atlanta World Championships, thus making historical strides.
