The Foundation University Islamabad’s Department of Arts and Media, along with the Embassy of Romania, organized the Foundation Film Festival 2025. This gathering highlighted the Romanian documentary ‘The King’s War,’ detailing King Michael I’s significant influence during World War II. The festivities commenced upon the arrival of the Romanian Ambassador Dr Dan Stoenescu, greeted by Professor Dr Qaiser Ali Malik and Dr Hina Shahid, Chairperson of the Department of Arts and Media. Notable attendees included renowned artist Jamal Shah and Zaildar Ahsan Shah, president of the Romania-Pakistan Friendship Association. During her address, Dr. Hina Shahid underscored how arts and media can foster peace amidst conflict, underlining their contributions to both educational milestones and community engagement.
A total of ninety-two film entries were submitted for consideration within multiple genres at this year’s festival. In his speech, Ambassador Stoenescu discussed Romania’s intricate political landscape throughout World War II and stressed the significance of cinema, visual arts, and dramatic performances in safeguarding historical memory. He lauded Pakistani creative expressions and noted their part in enhancing intercultural connections between Romania and Pakistan following a visit to the Indigenous Art Gallery. Concluding the event was an awards presentation honoring those who played key roles in making the festival successful.

This cultural exchange represents an important move towards bolstering relations between Romania and Pakistan, coming after the establishment of Romania’s Honorary Consulate in Peshawar and talks about forming parliamentary friendship groups.
