The train network has experienced significant disruptions with numerous delays and cancellations leading to extensive disorder.

On Tuesday afternoon, the network suddenly halted when a train passing through encountered downed high-voltage cables dangling over the rails close to Strathfield station in Sydney’s inner-west. This incident led to a power failure.

Significant disturbances within the railway system persist into today, with multiple routes still being serviced by buses instead of trains across various parts of the city.

Transport for
NSW
advised passengers on Tuesday night that considerable delays and service interruptions were expected to persist across various routes of Sydney’s railway network throughout Wednesday, particularly affecting the T1, T2, and T3 lines.

‘Those intending to use the rail system today should consider avoiding travel altogether or look into using alternate modes of transportation where feasible,’ stated Transport for NSW.

‘If you require travel across the network, only a few shuttle services will be running.’

‘In case you need to travel, make sure to plan accordingly and allocate additional time for your journey. Although services are operating across all lines, they are available less frequently than usual.’

‘Sydneysiders can breathe easier as Sydney Trains crews laboured through the night, successfully removing a faulty train and completing the necessary fixes to the overhead wires that led to significant disruptions across the railway system yesterday.’

Approximately 22 bus services will be augmenting train operations between Lidcombe and Ashfield starting at 6 am.

‘The Sydney Trains has once more expressed regret to commuters for the ongoing disruptions and related inconveniences,’ stated Transport for NSW.

It’s anticipated that the work will wrap up by late morning, after which we’ll aim to switch back to our regular scheduled services for the afternoon rush hour.

Approximately 300 passengers aboard the crowded train struck by live electrical lines remained trapped for about three hours until each carriage was sequentially removed as part of their evacuation process.

The New South Wales Transport Minister, John Graham, characterized the circumstance as perilous and posing extreme danger to lives when a 1500-volt power connection was resting atop the train.

“This is indeed a highly significant incident occurring right at the core of Sydney’s railway system,” Mr Graham stated to ABC News.

Mr Graham stated that the train’s pantograph hit the overhead wires, resulting in the damage.

The video depicted affected travelers being guided off the train and making their way to safety alongside the tracks.

A power failure led to three additional trains stopping, after which personnel arrived at the location to assist in evacuating the passengers.

Strathfield serves as a key junction for several railway lines, and this particular event disrupted service on every Sydney Metro line excluding the T4 line.

The metro services, light rail operations, and local bus routes were not affected.

The team will conduct their last inspections on Wednesday morning prior to restoring electricity across six lines at Homebush and beginning operations.
