Premier Chris Minns announced this plan last week following a power supply issue originating from Strathfield that disrupted services across the network for a minimum of 24 hours.

A section of a train’s roof-mounted electrical connector got entangled with the overhead power lines close to Homebush around 2:30 pm on the previous Monday, leading to disruptions across 80 percent of Sydney’s railway system.

Minns stated that a free-fare day was “the minimum we could offer.”

The trains returned to their regular schedule by Wednesday morning, but then several days of rainfall added additional strain to the planned operations.

At some stage, services didn’t halt at Lewisham in the city’s Inner West as the station’s underground passage was inundated with water.

Minns has suggested conducting an autonomous audit of the present transportation network, concentrating on upkeep, timetable adherence, and communication with passengers.
