On May 30, ACCRA, GHANA – The Greater Accra branch of the Centre for National Culture (CNC) inaugurated this year’s installment of the CNC’s Ebo Whyte Student Drama Contest at Accra Academy in Accra.

The CNC, working alongside Roverman Productions, had planned for seven schools to participate on the first day of the zonal competition; however, only four showed up initially, with expectations that additional schools would join later.

The educational institutions encompassed within this area are Accra Academy, Accra Girls Senior High School, Kaneshie Technical Senior High, and Ebenezer Senior High Schools, all located in zone one.

After concluding the five regional competitions, the upcoming national finals will gather the top contestants from each region at the National Theatre for the ultimate showdown next month.

Mr. Eric Ohene-Larbi, the Acting Regional Director of CNC, stated during his speech that the contest provided a special chance for aspiring young performers to gain knowledge, develop their skills, and excel.

He mentioned that the competition served as a stage where contestants were encouraged to be daring, to showcase their individuality, and to aim for greatness within the realm of performing arts.

He mentioned that theater arts held an essential place in societal functions, enabling the telling of tales, delving into personal and collective identities, disseminating cultural insights, and safeguarding recollections.

As per his statement, the objective of the CNC via this program is to foster creative abilities, instill self-assurance, and encourage analytical thought.

Mr. Ohene-Larbi recognized the consistent backing from Roverman Productions and playwright Uncle Ebo Whyte, who have steadfastly supported the center since the inception of the competition.

“We think this collaboration will become more robust and greatly aid the advancement of theater arts along with Ghana’s developing creative sector,” he stated.

Mr. Ohene-Larbi appealed to charitable groups, individual supporters, and key players with an interest in theater arts to assist the CNC in promoting Ghanaian culture and strengthening our cultural legacy.

Master Daniel Mensah, a pupil from Accra Academy, praised the organizers of the event and encouraged officials to keep supporting it in order to uncover additional talent for the entertainment sector.
