The FCMB Group Plc has reiterated its dedication to the Ojude Oba festival, viewing it as an opportunity to boost commerce and investments via arts, crafts, tourism, and hospitality sectors.
Prior to the event following closely after the Sallah celebrations, Mr. Diran Olojo, who serves as the Divisional Head of Corporate Affairs at FCMB, stated that the financial institution sees this gathering not only as an opportunity for cultural display but also as a driving force behind inclusive and sustainable development.
The theme for this year’s festival, set for Sunday, June 8, 2025, is ‘Ojude Oba: Honoring Our Heritage, Safeguarding Our Tomorrow.’ This event traces its roots back more than a hundred years and draws tens of thousands of attendees from both within Nigeria and abroad. Over time, it has become an important gathering point where traditional authority, commerce, and community cohesion intersect, showcasing the blend between cultural traditions and progress.
In a statement provided to The PUNCH on Thursday, Olojo stated, “‘Ojude Oba’ embodies the kind of society we aspire to create: one that cherishes heritage, solidarity, and enduring success. Our backing, which commenced approximately 25 years ago, stems from the foresight of our late founding member, Otunba Olasubomi Balogun, who saw value in how cultural elements can foster business growth and societal progress. This principle continues to be fundamental to our mission—to bridge individuals with financial resources and market opportunities.”
FCMB has committed to increasing its involvement through participation in customary events such as the ‘regberegbe’ procession and paying respects to the Awujale, who serves as the traditional leader of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona.
Olojo pointed out that the bank’s participation extends further than just sponsoring, emphasizing, “Our mission is to support customs with significant social and economic impact. Events such as Ojude Oba generate interest in areas including tourism, hospitality, and small businesses, all while maintaining the cultural ties that unite us.”
Olu Okuboyejo, who leads the organizing committee for the Ojude Oba Festival, expressed his gratitude towards corporate supporters such as FCMB, highlighting how the festival exemplifies both cultural preservation and interfaith unity.
“This year, 25 warrior families will showcase their equestrian skills along with vibrant ‘regberegbe’ performances. The festival continues to be a present from Ijebuland to Nigeria and farther abroad,” he stated.
The Ogun State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr Sesan Fagbayi, mentioned that the state government aims to enhance the global attractiveness and economic impact of the festival.
He stated, “Ojude Oba is more than just a celebration—it’s a vital cultural resource. Our aim is to make sure that this year’s event provides enduring benefits.”
