Five skier corpses have been discovered close to Switzerland’s upscale resort town of Zermatt.
A day prior, emergency services were notified of some discarded skis around the 4,000-meter mark in the Rimpfischhorn mountain region, according to statements from the prosecutor’s office in canton Valais.
Emergency personnel discovered the remains close to the Adlergletscher glacier following aerial and land search operations in southwestern Switzerland, near the boundary with northern Italy.
Local airline Air Zermatt said that three of the bodies were found on the debris of an avalanche a few hundred metres below where the skis were spotted. The other two were discovered higher up the mountain, it added.
