From Àjoké to Ìfẹ́ Aládùn: Temitope Fash Shapes Purpose and Passion Into Sound

May 31, 2025

Témítòpé Fáśésìn, widely recognized as Desaxparrot, is a versatile artist hailing from Iléshà in Osun State, Nigeria. In an interview conducted by YÉTÜNDÈ Ajánaku, he delves into two pivotal performances that influenced his musical path and discusses the underlying theme of his most recent release, Ìfẹ́ Aládùn. Additionally, he addresses personal development, openness, and maintaining authenticity while urging aspiring musicians to celebrate their individuality and rely on divine guidance for career navigation.

What direction had you taken before pursuing music? When did you understand that this was meant to be your life’s work?

Initially, it was all about art, and then came music. For me, it has never been solely about music; I’ve had a deep passion for various forms of art since secondary school. Whether it was artistic drawing—though I’m uncertain if I still retain those skills—or activities like singing and acting, arts have always held a special place within me. It’s well-known that I belong in both the arts and entertainment sectors. Despite this inclination towards the creative field, I once attempted to enter the barbecue business following my debut as a television commercial model during my first international trip in 2014, yet unfortunately, I didn’t succeed.

The song “Ìfẹ́ Aládùn” (Sweet Love) has a very heartfelt title. Can you share what motivated the music and theme of this latest drop?

The earlier release “Sìnmíkár’elé (Come Home With Me)” inspired my track Ìfé Aládùn (Sweet Love). It seems that some listeners interpreted “Sìnmíkár’elé” primarily as a romantic tune suitable mainly for those who have recently tied the knot or are soon-to-be-engaged couples. They asked for an anthem tailored specifically towards long-term marriages, particularly aimed at seasoned spouses. However, fundamentally, this new composition reflects my personal journey and also serves as a vision cast for what lies ahead in my own marital path since I’ve been married only a short time now.

You incorporated many Yoruba cultural aspects into this work—from your attire to the title. Was this deliberate? How significant is culture in shaping your artistic expression?

Absolutely! This decision was deliberate. My culture defines who I am, and my identity is rooted in this heritage. As a proud Yoruba individual, I have no qualms about embracing my roots. Incorporating cultural aspects and nuances into artistic expressions allows me to maintain my authenticity and uniqueness. Creating art primarily serves myself rather than seeking external validation; that’s how I believe true artistry should be approached. When an artwork resonates personally, it deserves broad appreciation and acknowledgment over mere approval from others.

What strategies do you use to integrate contemporary musical trends without losing your distinctive style and core message?

The concept of “modern” in music is subjective since trends often have a temporal aspect; today’s contemporary sounds might evolve into classics over time. Nevertheless, my aim is to create enduring work through my artistic expression. A legacy meant to transcend my lifetime. This vision is within reach as I delve deeper into music and laudatory verse.

It appears you possess a powerful stage presence and excel at visual storytelling. Do you believe that visuals play an equally crucial role as audio in the contemporary music industry?

Certainly! I created an online Yorùbá praise poem project called “Appraisal Skits by Fash,” which involves recited verses focusing on interpreting, uncovering, and honoring Yoruba traditional names. While this endeavor feels like a spiritual mission to me, it also stems from the belief that stories become more compelling and influential when paired with visual elements. Thus, regardless of whether we’re talking about art forms such as music or fashion, audio plays just as crucial a role as imagery; both complement each other perfectly.

Which moment from your musical journey stands out as the most unforgettable for you up until now?

I have two unforgettable experiences. The first occurred two years ago when I presented “An Appraisal” under the Yoruba title ÀJOKÉ during one of my curated events. The audience’s enthusiastic response energized me and set me on a journey with clear direction. My second significant memory was being invited to perform at Emufest by Beautiful Nubia in 2024. During this event, I was highlighted along with other talented performers by Beautiful Nubia himself as an introduction to the crowd, receiving much praise.

Following “Ìfẹ́ Aládùn,” what does the future hold for Temitope Fash with this new project?

Ifé Aládún (Sweet Love) is a love song focused on being intentional within relationships or marriages.

Renewing our wedding promises and demonstrating profound affection verbally and audibly. Alongside Ìfé Aládùn, I aim for relationships to flourish with authentic love and joy. My wish is to reshape perceptions around marriage from multiple angles. Additionally, I aspire for this to draw interest from individuals, companies, or event organizers toward my work since there remains much more to be revealed.

What lessons has the music business imparted regarding patience, creativity, or even dealing with failure?

Up until now, I’ve understood that significant career paths aren’t stumbled upon; instead, they’re deliberately crafted through persistence, dedication, and fortitude. In terms of creativity, I’ve discovered the importance of developing one’s distinct voice to achieve uniqueness and genuineness. Additionally, I’ve learned that being visible exposes us to vulnerability—it isn’t about failing but rather getting closer to our goals, which entails certain sacrifices. Pursuing impact requires garnering attention, attaining attention brings pressure, and enduring this pressure fosters development. As long as industries persist, I will keep striving for progress.

What guidance would you offer to emerging talents who are just beginning their journey and look up to individuals such as yourself?

Your gifts and talents come from GOD; stay connected to Him. Dedicate more peaceful moments to seeking His wisdom and guidance. Have the courage to stand out in your field. A place awaits just for you, and an audience is eagerly expecting you to emerge. Concentrate on them as you establish your kingdom. Amen!
