President Bola Ahmed Tinubu plans to depart from Abuja for Lagos on Tuesday to mark the 50th anniversary of ECOWAS, the Economic Community of West African States.

The ECOWAS gold anniversary was launched in Accra recently.

The Lagos event will feature a recreation of the 1975 proclamation at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) located in Victoria Island.

Bayo Onanuga, who serves as the Special Advisor to the President on Information and Strategy, stated in an official release that President Tinubu, as the Chairperson of ECOWAS, will emphasize the achievements of the economic community during his address.

Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi, who serves as the Chairman of the NIIA and previously held the position of Minister of External Affairs, will examine the organization’s progress over the past 50 years. This topic will then be further discussed and analyzed by panellists during an upcoming event at the NIIA.

The sole remaining Head of State to have signed the ECOWAS declaration, General Yakubu Gowon (Retired), will attend all events and address guests at the Eko Hotels.

Dr Omar Touray, who serves as the President of the ECOWAS Commission, will be giving the welcoming speech.

When in Lagos, President Tinubu will officially open several initiatives of his administration on Saturday, May 31.

Included among these projects are Phase I of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the construction of the Lekki Deep Sea Port with tax credits for concrete roads, the inauguration of Stage II of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, as well as the development of the 7th Axial Road.

The President will virtually inaugurate the Kano-Kanwar-Danja-Hadejiya Section II Road and the Yakasai-Zalli Road, and launch the Kano Northern Bypass as well as Sections I of Zaria-Hunkuyi-Dabai, Dabai-Kafur-Malumfashi, and Malumfashi-Dayi-Yashe-Gidan Mutum Daya.
