Alhamra Film Club Revives Cinematic Heritage With “Jago Hua Savera” – An International Edition (English) Exclusive

On June 1, the Lahore Arts Council presented through its Alhamra Film Club initiative a screening of the highly praised 1959 film “Jago Hua Savera” at the Alhamra Arts Centre located on The Mall.

The movie, helmed by A.J. Kardar, produced by Luqman Taasir, and scripted by the renowned poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz, garnered significant praise from viewers for its deep storyline and historical significance.

The movie set against the backdrop of Dhaka delves deep into the moving stories of fisherman fighting for their dignity and existence. Featuring stellar performances from Mitra, Anees, Zareen, Shams Anhaar, Qazi Khaleeq, among others, it vividly portrayed the challenges faced by an underprivileged group. Attending the screening along with general viewers was Chairman Alhamra, Mr. Razi Ahmed, who commented, “‘Jago Hua Savera’ ignites a powerful determination and heightens societal consciousness.” He further added that the Alhamra Film Club is effectively revitalizing our cinematic heritage.

The Executive Director of Alhamra, Tauqeer Haider Kazmi, articulated his dedication to rejuvenating Pakistani cinema, saying, “In the past, Pakistan was recognized globally for its cinematic contributions. We at Alhamra aim to reclaim this prominence with strategic programming and community involvement. Cinema serves as an influential medium of expression, and reviving it is crucial for defining our cultural essence.”

The gathering attracted numerous spectators, reinforcing Alhamra’s standing as a promoter of high artistic standards and cultural conservation.
