The Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment has unveiled the reintroduction of the National Talent Export Programme (NATEP). This significant program is spearheaded by the Honourable Minister, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole.
The revamped program aims to capitalize on the $1 trillion global outsourcing sector by promoting Nigeria’s young population as a premier source of skilled digital and professional expertise worldwide.
Nigeria takes steps to enhance infrastructure through NATEP
“What we’re celebrating today goes beyond just launching a program; it signifies our ongoing commitment to realizing a vision that aims to establish Nigeria as a global frontrunner in the realms of work and services,” stated Jumoke Oduwole, who serves as the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment.
As she puts it, since digital transformation is deeply integrated into President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic strategy, Nigeria is enhancing the infrastructure, systems, and policy instruments required for an inclusive and innovation-led future.
In line with President Tinubu’s eight-point plan, NATEP aims to bolster Nigeria’s youth, tap into international service export prospects, and foster an equitable economic shift.
Given its young, English-fluent populace, advantageous timezone, and swiftly improving digital framework, Nigeria holds a distinctive advantage to emerge as a formidable international provider of proficient expertise.
NATEP aims to connect Nigerians to the international marketplace.
Led by Oduwole, NATEP signifies a tactical initiative aimed at broadening Nigeria’s economic base, increasing foreign exchange revenues, and generating lasting job opportunities.
The programme will focus on aggregating global demand and connecting it with Nigeria’s skilled workforce through structured and ethical talent export pathways.
The objective of the Ministry is to generate one million direct employment opportunities linked to exports and potentially up to five million indirect jobs over a period of five years.
Additionally, NATEP strives to secure more than $1 billion in foreign direct investment to boost Nigeria’s expanding service export sector.
This programme targets high-impact sectors such as technology, business process outsourcing (BPO), the creative economy, healthcare, professional services, and remote work.
FG appoints National Coordinator
In this relaunch, Teju Abisoye has taken on the role of National Coordinator for NATEP.
With more than twenty years of expertise in developmental financing, Abisoye has spearheaded significant nationwide job creation programs and taken on crucial responsibilities in governmental projects, fostering enterprise growth, and collaborating with the private sector.
Her guidance imparts clear direction, concentration, and implementation power to the program’s objective.
At the relaunch, Abisoye emphasized that NATEP’s mission is to establish Nigeria as Africa’s premier global talent center by developing a supportive environment via policies, platforms, promotions, and collaborations.
To achieve this significant national goal, we will develop and empower Nigeria’s vast youth population so they can capitalize on the $1 trillion international market for service trade, which has an increasing need for digital services, outsourced tasks, and remote employment opportunities.
NATEP is an SPV
This represents one of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s key initiatives aimed at directly addressing youth unemployment, boosting essential foreign exchange, and broadening the economy via growth in the services sector.
NATEP, a Special Purpose Vehicle under the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, has evolved from a basic outsourcing facilitator into a full-scale ecosystem enabler.
This initiative will now focus on driving policy reforms, expanding digital infrastructure, bolstering international collaborations, and establishing consistent talent streams aligned with worldwide benchmarks.
Key components of NATEP
- Training 10 million Nigerians in internationally acknowledged digital and professional certifications
- Encouraging BPO and IT-enabled service firms to broaden their activities in Nigeria
- Developing compliant and principled routes for workforce migration in line with international labor demands
- Creating a nationwide talent repository to chart abilities and monitor job prospects
- Partnering with global outsourcing platforms and employers to aggregate demand
In alignment with President Tinubu’s 8-point agenda, NATEP is designed to empower Nigeria’s youth, enhance foreign exchange earnings, and support inclusive economic transformation. With a youthful, English-speaking population.
With its strategic location across multiple time zones and expanding digital infrastructure, Nigeria is well-placed to emerge as a competitive global source of talent.
Minister, NATEP enters into Memorandums of Understanding with Alaro City and Itana
In order to signify this fresh course, the Honourable Minister headed a senior delegation for an official trip to Alaro City, which hosts Itana—the pioneer Digital Special Economic Zone of Nigeria—on Friday, May 30, 2025.
During the visit, the Minister took the opportunity to sign a Memorandum of Understanding designed to enhance cooperation between the public and private sectors. This agreement was meant to highlight the robust infrastructure and innovative environment that would underpin the program’s achievements.
Oduwole said, “I am delighted to share news about a major achievement in our initiative: the successful conclusion of a strategic pact aimed at generating an initial 100,000 positions within key industries—thanks to cooperation with platforms such as Itana, Alaro City, and additional collaborators marking the start of a fresh chapter in collaborative implementation.”
