Musician and Lyricist Ganesh Rasik: A Voice silenced, Leaves Behind Timeless Melodies (International Edition – English)

Kathmandu, June 1 — The renowned lyricist, vocalist, and musician Ganesh Rasik breathed his last on Saturday morning as he was receiving medical care at the Nepal Cancer Hospital in Harisiddhi, Lalitpur.

Rasik had been battling prostate cancer and receiving frequent chemotherapy sessions.

His remains will be stored in the morgue at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital until Sunday, as his daughter is traveling from London, stated musician Bulu Mukarung.

Rasik, born in 1947 in Chhinamakhu, Bhojpur, stood out as a versatile artist in Nepal’s cultural scene. He created enduring hits such as “O Yangji Nana,” “Nunjasto Bilne Jindagi Ko Dhakarma Bokera,” “Dherai Samjhe Dherai Hunchha,” “Hamro Gharbata Tyo Amke Danda,” “O Shunyata,” “Gharbeti Nani Anganima Deu Na Maile Bas,” “Nakhelnu Juwa Ra Tass,” and “Rato Bhale Kwanya Kwanya.”

Rasik’s body of work encompasses several pieces such as “Kshitij Lai Chhuna Khojda” (a compilation of short stories), “Rasikka Geetharu” (a collection of lyrics), “Aakashgangako Otmuni” (a novel), “Dashgajama Ubhyara,” “Jaba Sisnuharu Tekdai Hide,” along with his extensive five-part memoir titled “Perungo.”

He took on several leadership roles in the arts industry, such as serving as the general manager at Ratna Recording Sansthan and the Rastriya Naachghar.
