Pakistan, June 1 — Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s initiative towards an Educated and Progressive Punjab has reached a crucial stage with the official launch of the “Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) Camps 2025.” This program marks a significant step toward achieving her vision for the region.
The Punjab Minister for School Education, Rana Sikandar Hayat, launched an initiative during a ceremony held in Multan. This marks the beginning of eight-week summer camps designed to enhance basic reading, writing, and math abilities in children between the ages of 5 and 9.
The gathering was joined by senior officials and key figures from the educational sector, featuring notable attendees such as School Secretary Khalid Nazir Wattoo, Divisional Commissioner Amir Karim Khan of Multan, Deputy Commissioner Waseem Hamid Sindhu, Chairperson of the Chief Minister’s Task Force Muzammil Mehmood, Member Provincial Assembly Barrister Usama Afzal, Additional Secretary for Southern PunjabUbaidullah, Project Director Imtiaz Shahid Gondal, along with UNICEF Education Manager Kamran Iftikhar.
At the event, Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat stated that more than 6,000 FLN centers are being established in 3,330 public schools throughout 12 districts of Punjab. He clarified that this initiative, conducted during the summer vacation, aims to provide customized learning opportunities suited to every student’s academic needs.
“He stated that all students will get complimentary books, flashcards, and educational resources.” He further mentioned that these camps adhere to the internationally recognized Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) methodology to guarantee each child learns at their individual speed.
“The FLN Camps represent more than just an educational initiative; they signify a crucial move toward enhancing the standard of education in Punjab,” stated the minister.
The initiative is supported by a $50.625 million grant from the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) and receives technical assistance from both GPE and UNICEF Pakistan.
Rana Sikandar Hayat emphasized the crucial role of communities, educators, and collaborators in achieving their objectives. He stated, “Dedicated teachers form the foundation of our educational framework.” At the same time, he cautioned absent faculty members that interfering with students’ prospects would not be accepted.
He emphasized that the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, has set aside PKR 90 billion for higher education and PKR 150 billion for school education. This allocation underscores their firm dedication to enhancing this field. He commended the School Education Department’s initiatives aimed at boosting enrollment rates, notably within the recently founded Schools of Eminence.
Commissioner Amir Karim Khan of the Multan Division expressed comparable opinions, stating that robust educational bases lead to a more promising tomorrow. He mentioned, “Summer camps serve not just as sources of happiness for kids but also blend fun, education, and imagination beautifully.” He observed that youngsters are acquiring essential life abilities like self-assurance, problem resolution, and collaboration, and highlighted that the favorable reaction from parents has been praiseworthy.
The commissioner stated that with programs such as the FLN Camps 2025, Punjab is progressing toward a future wherein each child can learn, develop, and thrive—realizing the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to transform education from merely an objective into a nationwide endeavor.
Secretary Schools Khalid Nazir Wattoo stated that the summer camps would boost children’s creativity, focus, and learning speed. He confirmed, “Starting from June 2, these camps will equip kids with vital educational abilities that will benefit them throughout their lives.”
The event came to an end with a touching homage to committed teachers and administrators. “Hero Awards” were bestowed upon them to recognize their remarkable efforts towards achieving this nationwide objective.
