A vocational teacher in Nakhon Sawan has been reassigned after a video surfaced showing her punishing male students caught smoking by forcing them to drink water mixed with cigarette butts.
The event, taking place on May 29, has ignited significant anger across Thai social media platforms, where numerous people have criticized the penalty as being overly severe and damaging.
The footage captured by a student depicts the instructor gathering approximately ten male pupils and blending tobacco remnants into a glass of water. Subsequently, she instructed these boys to consume the concoction. The recording captures her employing explicit vocabulary, resulting in an intense dispute between herself and several students. It took additional faculty members stepping in to calm down everyone involved.
After facing significant public criticism, the college director stated that the instructor, who was serving on a disciplinary committee, had been reassigned to another position. Additionally, the institution has contacted the students’ parents to examine the situation and deliberate on subsequent actions.
Although many believe that the students erred in smoking on campus grounds, detractors contend that the penalty imposed was excessive and might entail significant health hazards.
There have been calls for the Ministry of Education to look into the teacher’s behavior and take steps to prevent similar disciplinary actions from happening again.
The college director was anticipated to offer an official statement on the issue later Saturday evening.
