Many students barely managed to escape when the classrooms they were seated in for the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) collapsed on Wednesday.
The event took place at Government Secondary School in Namne, which is part of the Gassol Local Government Area within Taraba State.
During a severe downpour coupled with gusty winds, the classrooms caved in on the students inside.
The students and their invigilators were trapped in the collapsed classrooms for hours before some residents rescued them.
A resident named Alhaji DanAzumi Lauris informed Daily Trust that the classrooms collapsed onto the second group of students, since the initial batch had completed their exams and vacated the school grounds.
He mentioned that the event took place around 6 PM on Wednesday.
DanAzumi mentioned that the injured students and teachers have been transported to a Primary Healthcare Centre situated just a short distance from the school, where they are currently receiving medical attention.
He mentioned that besides damaging the school, the storm also devastated numerous homes within the community.
