The Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Professor Idris Bugaje, has praised President Bola Tinubu’s government for its exceptional emphasis on technical and vocational education.

During an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, Bugaje stated that the last couple of years have been pivotal for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Nigeria.

He characterized the Tinubu-led administration’s funding of technical education as “unparalleled in the nation’s history since the civil war.”

He remembered that before the 1970s, the nation witnessed significant advancements and emphasis in the TVET sector; however, this momentum waned as oil riches took hold, diverting attention away from skill-oriented education.

These past two years have been the most successful for TVET in Nigerian history since the end of the civil war.

Prior to the civil war, many advancements occurred within our TVET sector, and these received significant focus.

“But ever since the oil boom in the 1970s, TVET was neglected. Only recently has the federal government started paying heed to TVET,” he stated.

He similarly commended Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, for introducing comprehensive programs and advancements within the TVET field.

He referred to Alausa as “a physician possessing extensive expertise in the field of education.”
