Nkanyiso Moyo from Bulawayo, widely recognized as Guluva Se7en, is continuing to bring honor to his city with his acclaimed song “City of Kings.” This track has been selected as the official theme tune for this year’s Bulawayo Arts Festival (BAF).
The track, included in his groundbreaking 2014 album “Colour of Dreams,” serves as a strong poetic tribute to Bulawayo’s deep-rooted traditions, acknowledging it as Zimbabwe’s cultural hub and a site of regality.
Notably, City of Kings was not originally conceived with BAF as a target.
When Lady Tshawe (the festival director) listened to the song, she adored it,” stated Guluva Se7en. “Despite being 10 years old, this track remains pertinent today. The lyrics aren’t focused on me but rather capture the essence of our city—its neighborhoods, famous landmarks, and well-known personalities. I am grateful to BAF for acknowledging my older composition and reviving my professional journey.
The album ” Colour of Dreams” represented a pivotal point in Guluva Se7en’s journey, garnering him multiple awards and recognitions: he was honored with the title of Best Newcomer at the Zimbabwe Hip-Hop Awards in 2015, and also earned nods for Best Album at the same event and for Best Newcomer at the Midlands Music Awards in 2015.
