June 2, 2025

The Bulawayo Arts Festival (BAF), which commenced on Friday, May 30, is set to run through June 7, highlighting the dynamic artistic landscape and rich cultural legacy of the city.

This year’s festival theme is “Honoring Monarchy via Art,” recognizing Bulawayo’s deep-rooted customs, legacy, and communal ethos.

The festival commenced on May 30th with the Comedy Meets Poetry event held at Stanley Hall in Makokoba, which is a historically important community center in Bulawayo.

The occasion, led by acclaimed funnyman Ntando Van Moyo, combined comedic elements with poetic artistry through presentations by performers such as Sgoqa the Poet, Sonkomose, Thaluso Da Poet General Lesley, Nkosi King, D’Jun, and Diana Nomsa.

Subsequently, the Kasi to Kasi Talent Show was held yesterday at the Amphitheater.

On next Tuesday, the Small City Hall is set to host an Imbube concert, which serves as a profound homage to African vocal expressions, cultural legacy, and musical synergy.

The performance will showcase famous Zimbabwean a cappella ensembles such as Amaqaqa, Indosakusa, Sunduza, Black Umfolosi, Great Stars, and Ijongosi, with Bongelani serving as the emcee.

On Thursday, the Large City Hall will host the Imbokodo Concert, featuring an all-women lineup aimed at honoring females in the artistic world.

The BAF organizers shared through social media platforms that this event will feature performances by Novuyo Seagirl, Luchi Shiki, Matojeni Melo Maniacs, WeCreate, Lemoniq, and Albinism Konnect, with TKP taking charge of hosting duties.

Multiple thrilling events will be highlighted during the last few days of the festival.

On June 5th and 6th, Stanley Square will be hosting a kwaito and hip-hop music workshop.

The Amakhosi Concert is set for June 6 at City Hall, starting at 6 pm.

This event will highlight renowned male musicians from Bulawayo, featuring acclaimed artists like Msiz’kay, Luminous, Asaph Afrika, Gog’ Bekezela, Guluva 7, Lamas Ellz, and Charles Mahlaba.

The performance is expected to attract a big audience and leave a significant impact.

The festival will wrap up on June 7 with two events: a youth concert taking place at Nkulumane and a Tshibilika/Rhumba concert held at the City Hall Car Park.
