Star of King of the Hill Jonathan Joss
passed away at the age of 59.
The performer is most recognized for
his role as John Redcorn in the iconic animated series
, running for 13 seasons from 1997 to 2009.
As per the reports, he was shot by an unknown neighbor in Texas following a ‘contentious dispute’.
TMZ
reported that they started rowing at a home in San Antonio on Sunday evening when things escalated.
Officers from the San Antonio Police Department informed the media outlet that the neighbor drew a firearm and fired multiple shots at the deceased celebrity, after which they escaped from the location.
According to reports, law enforcement officers reacted to a shooting incident and apprehended a suspect just one street away from the residence.
He was taken into custody, yet additional information has not been disclosed – law enforcement officials are probing the situation and attempting to determine what triggered the dispute.
The paramedics soon arrived but could not revive Joss, who was subsequently declared deceased.
Tristan Kern de Gonzales, Joss’s spouse, posted an extensive message on Facebook about her loss, stating that her husband was killed in what appeared to be a hate crime motivated by homophobia.
“My spouse Jonathan Joss and I experienced gunshots when we went to check the mailbox at what used to be our residence,” he started in a long message.
‘That house was torched following more than two years of intimidation from individuals in the community who constantly warned us that they would torch it. Despite reporting these threats to the authorities several times, no action was taken.’
‘During that period, we consistently faced harassment from people who made their disapproval of our relationship evident. A lot of this mistreatment was explicitly homophobic.’
When we went back to the location to collect our messages, we found the skull of one of our dogs along with its harness prominently displayed. This sight inflicted significant emotional anguish upon both of us. In reaction to this distressing scene, we started shouting and sobbing.
“As we were engaged in this activity, a man came up to us. He began shouting aggressive homophobic remarks. Then, picking up a gun from his lap, he fired,” he went on to say.
‘Jonathan and I didn’t have any weapons. We weren’t posing a threat to anyone. We were consumed with grief. We stood shoulder to shoulder. When the man shot, Jonathan shoved me aside. He spared my life.’
‘Jonathan is my spouse. He showered me with affection during our time together, far exceeding what many experience. We had just gotten married. We chose Valentine’s Day. We were in the midst of searching for a trailer and mapping out our future.’
He was killed by someone who couldn’t bear seeing two men in love. I was beside him when he died. I assured him of how greatly he was loved. For all those who stood behind him, his fans and friends, remember that he held you in high regard. You were like family to him.
Gonzales stated: ‘My current priority is safeguarding Jonathan’s legacy and commemorating the life we created together.’
Recently, it was announced that King of the Hill will be revived with some members of the original voice cast.
In addition to his role in the animated series, he also portrayed Ken Hotate in several notable episodes of “Parks and Recreation,” working alongside actors like Amy Poehler, Chris Pratt, Rob Lowe, Adam Scott, Nick Offerman, and Aubrey Plaza.
Joss made appearances in “The League,” “Friday Night Lights,” “Charmed,” “Ray Donovan,” and “The Messenger.”
His final appearance onscreen was as Bad Face alongside Sylvester Stallone in the film Tulsa King.
