truly excels in her role! Excited for season 2.’
One dedicated watcher commented: ‘Six minutes in and I’m hooked all over again. Wednesday bears the whole gothic genre on her shoulders.’
Other viewers expressed satisfaction with the fresh trajectory of the show, as evidenced by a comment from an enthusiast who noted: “It’s great that they’re incorporating additional elements of horror and background story this season; things are really ramping up.”
Another comment added: ‘I’m really pleased they’re making it more mature; although I enjoyed the first season, it felt too sluggish and unengaging from a horror perspective for Wednesday.’
The series has become one of Netflix’s most popular shows, making it unsurprising that fans are eagerly anticipating the release of the highly anticipated second season.
The first season, which premiered in 2022, racked up an enormous 252 million views, earning it the top spot on Netflix’s list of the most-watched English-language shows of all time.
In the meantime, Tudum has announced that Lady Gaga will make a special appearance in season two of Wednesday.
The announcement was made during Netflix Tudum 2025: The Live Event on May 31st, when the pop star took the stage to perform a selection of their hit songs such as Zombieboy, Bloody Mary, and Abracadabra, celebrating with fans.
She will portray the elusive and cryptic Rosaline Rotwood, a renowned Nevermore educator who encounters Wednesday.
Steve Buscemi, Billie Piper, Joanna Lumley, Thandiwe Newton, Christopher Lloyd, and Haley Joel Osment are some of the additional new additions joining season two.
Before the arrival of the second season
In August, the creators Miles Millar and Alfred Gough provided some insights into what audiences can anticipate, hinting that things take a grim turn for Wednesday and her companions at Nevermore.
‘There are certain instances that would undoubtedly make great scenes in a horror film,’ Miles stated.
Entertainment Weekly
‘We had some of those in season one, but this season includes several intensely powerful moments, I would say.’
‘Season two certainly includes several scenes that lean more towards traditional horror, and we remain mindful that the series caters to viewers across all age ranges.’
‘We aim to ensure that it’s never just torture porn, yet it should have sufficient intensity to convey genuine consequences and fatalities within this universe. It needs to be terrifying at times.’
‘I believe that’s the significant transition the series makes from humor to terror.’
The second season of Wednesday will debut on Netflix on August 6.
The article was initially released on May 27, 2025.
