Entertainer Darlington Okoye, widely recognized as Speed Darlington, has addressed the invitation from NAPTIP for an interview session.
Earlier, the singer was invited by the organization following a recent video in which he alleged that he had committed misconduct with a 15-year-old.
Even though he issued a public apology and stated that his comment was meant as a jest, the DSVA had referred the matter to NAPTIP.
Speed replied to the summons for an interview via a statement issued by his attorneys on Monday.
“I confirm receiving your correspondence titled ‘above’ which was directed to my Instagram account on May 28, 2025. This communication requested me to provide explanations regarding specific online video clips you claim include acknowledgments of sexual activities—activities that would be considered offenses according to both the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act from 2015 and the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act also enacted in 2015. Being an individual who adheres strictly to legal standards and has been brought up with stringent ethics and morals by strict disciplinarian parents, I can assure you that I have neither participated nor thought about engaging in any kind of predatory behavior or misconduct towards individuals of the opposite gender,” states the document.
As a role model, I understand my duties in fostering enduring ethical values among the younger generation. I would never intentionally participate in activities that undermine these important responsibilities. To ensure clear communication, let me reaffirm that the mentioned Instagram video was created solely for amusement. It does not represent any past or upcoming events involving myself and any woman—regardless of age. Unfortunately, something intended as humor has escalated into an overblown issue due to individuals searching for faults without cause.
