UNILAG Students Urged by Experts to Seize Creative Opportunities

Professionals in the field of careers have advised students at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, to take advantage of whatever opportunities come their way in whichever profession they choose.

The specialists pinpointed career diversification as an essential approach to attaining excellence in our rapidly changing modern era.

As stated on Monday, the conversation took place during the TEDxCMUL 2025 conference, which was hosted at the Old Great Hall located on the university grounds.

With the theme “A Masterclass in Excellence,” the event brought together experts from different fields, inspiring students to explore careers outside traditional limits.

Jesulewami Oreweme, the main organizer, stressed that “Excellence isn’t about achieving flawlessness once; it’s about persistent improvement. It doesn’t refer to an additional effort but rather a deliberate decision each of us can embrace.”

Dr. Onyii Azode, who transitioned from being a medical professional to a digital entrepreneur, encouraged the students to keep their minds open to various passions.

“Don’t confine yourself to just one route. Achieving excellence stems from the breadth and profundity of your passions. Have the courage to explore various professions,” she stated.

Funso Doherty, who previously chaired PAL Pensions, likewise stressed the significance of active citizenship in reclaiming quality standards.

The fashion and entertainment magnate Sola Oyebade, also recognized as Mr. Mahogany, highlighted the importance of creativity in driving innovation within sectors and transcending limits.

A commercial pilot named Zino Mario-Ghae, who is only 19 years old, stated, “No dream is out of reach. Being excellent means having the courage to begin and keep going.”

Dr. Bola Montana, who divides her time between practicing medicine and fashion influencing, remarked that “Excellence stems from consistency, genuineness, and development. It’s about staying true to oneself while continuously improving.”

McEva Temofe, a social entrepreneur, highlighted values as the cornerstone of achieving success.

“He emphasized making excellence your benchmark,” he added, “Modesty and dedication will lead you to remarkable accomplishments.”

At a panel discussion, Dunsin Bankole, Toluwanimi Fagunleka, Omolara Sanni, and Adetuyi Adedipo encouraged students to cultivate adaptable abilities and embrace new prospects.
