The renowned British actress Barbara Ferris, famous for her part in “Coronation Street,” passed away at the age of 85.
She died on May 23, 2025. The reason for her passing has not been revealed yet.
Ferris was the elder sibling of Pam Ferris, who starred in ‘Matilda’ and ‘Call the Midwife.’
In 1961, she had a short stint on Coronation Street playing Nona Willis, who worked as a barmaid at the Rovers Return inn.
Her stint on the program was brief—she departed after just 10 episodes because of difficulties with mastering the northern accent needed for her character.
Apart from her involvement in soap operas, Ferris enjoyed a diverse acting career. She appeared in movies such as “Children of the Damned” (1964), “Catch Us If You Can” (1965), and concluded her on-screen performances with “The Krays” in 1990.
She appeared alongside iconic actors such as Laurence Olivier (A Pair of Briefs, 1962), Oliver Reed (The System, 1964), John Cleese, and Donald Sutherland (Interlude, 1968).
Pam Ferris has said that Barbara transformed her life. “My elder sister Barbara moved to New Zealand along with her spouse and their infant child.”
“I remained in Bridgend, Wales, with my parents, where my father worked for the police force,” she told MailOnline.
Pam said a phone call with Barbara became a turning point. “It was wonderful to speak to my sister, but that telephone call upset all of us because we missed her so much.”
After weeks of discussion, it was ultimately decided that we would relocate to New Zealand so that my parents could witness their grandchild’s growth.”
She commented, “Being near my sister was delightful once again, yet what truly captivated me were all the additional aspects of my fresh environment.”
Fans have honored Barbara Ferris on social media platforms.
One commented: “Extremely saddened to learn of Barbara Ferris passing. Her presence on-screen was remarkably composed. ‘Catch Us If You Can’ remains etched in my memories from childhood. Farewell peacefully, Dinah.”
Someone else commented: “We were fortunate to have her.”
Barbara is survived by her husband, John Quested, and their three children: Nicholas, Christopher, and Catherine.
