Nepathya Bridges Diaspora Ties in Pittsburgh

Kathmandu, June 3 – The USA tour of the band Nepathya proceeded with their concert on Saturday evening at Pittsburgh’s Roxian Theatre. Just as usual, the group’s track ‘Rato Ra Chandra Surya’ along with fluttering Nepalese flags enlivened the atmosphere—but this occasion featured an additional touch: the presence of the Bhutanese flag, held aloft by Bhutanese refugees who have been resettled in the United States.

Lead singer Amrit Gurung addressed the crowd, urging unity: “Never forget the past, but forgive and move forward. Let this shared language connect all Nepalis across the world.”

The concert kicked off with ‘Koshiko Pani’, followed by popular tracks such as ‘Bhedako Oon Jasto’ and ‘Chhekyo Chhekyo’. Among the attendees was 73-year-old Peggy Sterling, hailing originally from Germany, who came out of sheer curiosity but thoroughly enjoyed the performance even though she did not understand the lyrics.

Gurung motivated the young people to maintain the use of the Nepali language and extended an invitation for all to come and explore Nepal.

The band now heads to Chicago (June 7), Boston (June 11), and Greensboro, North Carolina (June 14) to wrap up their tour.
