New Miss World crowned as controversy brews over Miss England accusations

June 4, 2025

The 72nd Miss World beauty pageant was held this weekend in India and Opal Suchata Chuangsri of Thailand was crowned Miss World.

Chuangsri topped a field of 108 contestants in the contest held in India’s southern Hyderabad city on Saturday.

Dereje Admassu Hasset from Ethiopia finished as the first runner-up in the competition.

Chuangsri was crowned by last year’s winner, Krystyna Pyszková.

In her conversation with ANI, Chuangsri expressed her desire to work in Bollywood should an opportunity arise.

Chuangsri said: “I feel very happy and proud. It is an honour to take the first Miss World crown to Thailand… I hope I have made them proud…If I get the opportunity, I would love to (act in Bollywood films).”

Even with the festivities underway, tension is rising because Milla Magee, who holds the title of Miss England, has charged the organizers of the Miss World competition with exploiting her as mere decoration.

According to the

Guardian

Magee stated that she consented to participate in the 2025 Miss World competition with the aim of advocating for her initiative to incorporate CPR into the educational syllabus. Nevertheless, she departed prior to the finale on Saturday, expressing concerns about exploitation and feeling as though both she and other participants were presented merely as amusement for sponsors.

The organizers of Miss World issued a statement addressing “incorrect and slanderous claims” which they described as “entirely baseless and not reflective of her experience during her stay with us.”

Julia Morley, who leads the organization as CEO, provided

an interview

In The Hindu newspaper, she alleged that Magee left as she “felt she had no opportunity to succeed in the contest.”

Magee countered by stating that Morley’s remarks were “malicious and extremely harsh,” adding that her departure was due to her desire to “uphold my principles, which did not coincide with my beliefs.”

She stated, “It seemed as though I had been presented with an inaccurate portrayal of this system that advocates for ‘purposeful beauty,’ claiming to focus on activism and your causes. However, I realized that this could be my chance to address the importance of CPR training through the ‘Go Far’ initiative on a worldwide platform. The spotlight should not be on me personally, nor on my attire or appearance.”

Magee asserts that she and the other contestants were primarily present to entertain guests, with little chance provided for promoting their respective causes.
