ID Cabasa has addressed the present condition of Afrobeats, suggesting that it is gradually losing its essence.

On Sunday, Cabasa mentioned that Nigerian musicians are exerting considerable effort to cater to Western musical preferences so much that they risk abandoning their own cultural identities.
He expressed that despite the benefits of global recognition, he worries the Afrobeats sound has become watered down.
There is an upside to the diaspora impact. Numerous young Nigerian producers are discovering fresh sounds and enhancing their production quality. However, I am concerned about the identity we’re sacrificing. Western music is starting to adopt elements of Afrobeat, whereas our sound seems to be leaning towards R&B instead. This shift truly worries me. It feels quite alarming; at times, it seems as though we’ve already forfeited some of what made us unique.
Cabasa also emphasized the significance of classics, simultaneously cautioning emerging artists against losing their identity solely for the purpose of conformity.
“That’s why I continue to reimagine classics, reminding this new generation of artists not to lose their identity. Don’t sacrifice who you are merely to conform,” he stated.
