A 25-year-old gang member named Musa Shaibu, who was apprehended in the Ajegunle district of Lagos State, admitted to intending to leave the country with his portion of the ransom money after abducting someone.
The alleged victim, a 14-year-old boy whose father runs a Bureau de Change business, was kidnapped along with four other individuals from his residence in the Olodi-Apapa region of Lagos. The suspected perpetrator targeted the child named Hassan.
Following the abduction of the victim, the perpetrators requested N20 million as ransom.
‘The aim wasn’t to hurt the child, but to obtain the sum of N20 million from his wealthy father. With my portion of the funds, I planned to travel abroad,’ he allegedly stated to the investigating authorities.
The Lagos State police spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, who verified the occurrence, stated that the apprehension of the accused followed a report submitted by the complainant, who happens to be the father of the victim.
On May 1, 2025 around 4:50 PM, Hundeyin mentioned that the command’s detectives were informed by a complainant about an incident where his son, Hassan—who is 14 years old—was abducted by alleged kidnappers in the Olodi-Apapa region. The abductors reportedly sought a ransom amounting to N20 million for Hassan’s release.
According to the report, agents were promptly dispatched to the location where the ransom was supposed to be collected, which was at a gas station near Wema Bridge in Apapa. During this operation, they managed to apprehend one of the kidnappers, identified as Musa Shaibu, who is 25 years old.
The team also visited the kidnappers’ hideout located in a hotel within the Ajegunle district, where they found the captive unharmed. The individual was subsequently rescued, interrogated, and returned safely to their family. Additionally, the hotel’s manager was apprehended and detained for further examination as part of ongoing investigations,” he stated.
