Taskmaster Creator Pits Care Home Residents Against Each Other in Hilarious Competition

June 5, 2025

Alex Horne, the creator of Taskmaster, has organized a contest at a care home that was influenced by the Channel 4 television program.

A 46-year-old comedian paid a visit to Seccombe Court in Adderbury, Oxfordshire, and organized a sequence of tasks that led to four inhabitants going head-to-head in competition.

The tasks involved recognizing all items associated with pineapples and having inhabitants shut their eyes while lifting their hands once they believed one minute had elapsed.

Horne mentioned that it was “possibly the most unforgettable recording session for me,” reflecting back 15 years since he initially debuted the program at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

“They were just as competitive as any participants I have assessed previously, showcasing various approaches to lateral thinking along with innovative takes on my instructions,” he stated.

Over the past decade, I have facilitated Taskmaster sessions with children in schools, bachelor and bachelorette parties in pubs, young members of scouts in their meeting places, corporate employees in offices, and more than a hundred comedians on television. However, this particular task session stands out as one of the most unforgettable experiences for me.

One of the tasks participants faced was transferring a plate of desserts to another plate using just a straw.

The concluding challenge required participants to construct the highest possible structure utilizing spaghetti and marshmallows.

Longtime resident Ruth Johnson, who is 100 years old, stated: “Initially, I wasn’t sure what was anticipated from us, and I pondered over what we were supposed to do with all that spaghetti.”

Alex was really kind. Initially, I felt like we had crossed paths earlier, but now I believe I only recognized his face from TV.

Wojciech Kuczkowski, the general manager of Seccombe Court, stated, “The residents really enjoy watching ‘Taskmaster,’ and we thought it would be great to let them try their hand at the challenges themselves.”

Each of the four contestants performed exceptionally well, and it was fantastic to witness their competitive spirit shine through. I would also like to express my gratitude to Alex for participating and hosting our challenge.

In 2015, “Taskmaster” initially premiered on UKTV’s Dave network before relocating to Channel 4 in 2019. The show features five celebrities engaging in an array of unconventional tasks assigned to them by Taskmaster Greg Davies, with Alex_horning serving as his sidekick.
