A refurbished six-bedroom hunting lodge, which was featured on the television series Grand Designs, is back on the market following an unsuccessful sale approximately two years ago.

Kemeys Folly, spread across 24 acres, hit the market at £1.85 million following its remarkable refurbishment, which was showcased on television.

However, the Grade II-listed luxurious residence close to Newport, South Wales, did not find a purchaser initially and has since been relisted with an additional £100,000 price increase after two years.

In October 2005, investment banker Dean Berry and his spouse Sarah purchased the previously dilapidated property for £830,000.

In 2009, Grand Designs chronicled the self-building adventure of a Welsh couple who were restoring an 18th-century location.

Originally, the property was a stone-built hunting lodge for the Sheriff of Monmouth and is situated on a hilltop offering vistas across the Vale of Usk.

In addition to having six bedrooms — with five featuring ensuite bathrooms — the completed £1.95 million home now includes a cinema room and a glass extension.

Outdoors, you’ll find well-manicured gardens, multiple accessory structures, and a separate leisure facility equipped with an indoor swimming pool.

The main bedroom spans an entire level of the tower and leads to a private rooftop terrace for owners to appreciate.

Additionally, there is a 43-foot open-concept space combining kitchen, dining, and living areas designed for hosting guests.

Dean and Sarah, hailing from Wales, initiated the significant renovation of the property way back in 2007.

Dean formerly stated: “It was quite lucky for us to have been brought into contact with the property through a family connection.”

It was evident that this was an exceptional property and nothing like what I had encountered previously.

The ‘wow’ factor struck me immediately. Having the chance to possess a small castle in this region was an offer I simply couldn’t refuse.

The opportunity to construct here, where the setting is somewhat rural yet conveniently close to major highways, and to leave a mark on such a naturally beautiful region was incredible.

‘To have the folly remain grand and be restored is fantastic, but adding the stunning glass addition that spans the entire ridge takes it to another level.’

My favorite aspect of the property undoubtedly is the vistas. The true gem is the panorama seen from the summit of the folly.

‘From this spot, you can view nine different counties. This is one of my favorite locations, and we’ve hosted numerous gatherings here.’

Number One Real Estate stated: “Boasting a prominent hilltop location, this newly refurbished splendid residence features a spacious 43-foot open-concept kitchen, dining, and living space, along with an outstanding master suite complete with a large balcony and terrace.”

There are a total of six bedrooms (with five having ensuite facilities) — two located in the original structure and three within the single-story glass-enclosed addition.

‘Kemeys Folly also features a cinema room, along with high-speed internet access and an entertainment system available throughout the premises.’

The statement read: “To fully grasp the design, vistas, and grandeur of this exceptional residence, viewing is imperative.”
