John Maina’s Family Speaks: Catholic Priest Killed After Hosting Gachgua

June 8, 2025

The family of the Catholic priest who passed away under ambiguous conditions addressed their concerns on the day of his burial.

John Maina Ndegwa was reportedly murdered several weeks after he hosted the ex-Deputy President, Rigathi Gachgua.

During the Igwamiti Parish’s 25th Family Day celebration, the cleric welcomed the politician as an honored guest.

The funeral for Father Maina took place on Thursday, May 22, during an emotionally charged service at the Tabor Hill Spiritual Center.

Sara Wambui found it difficult to accept the loss of her son, who played a crucial role in the family.

“The tears that I shed are because of the children. I have left everything to God because I know He works. He is able to do anything, and He is doing it. It is better that the suspect identifies themselves, because I know my God has power, and it shall be done—whatever He pleases to do. Not by the hand of man, but by His hand.

“I don’t have much to share since I’m feeling terrible and wounded. The agony I’m experiencing makes it hard for me to convey my thoughts as I wish. This isn’t a simple issue,” she stated.
