My previous partner denied taking responsibility for the fifth child. He insisted he wasn’t the father. During this period, my oldest child along with the three younger kids were attending school, leaving me to manage care for the fourth child and the yet-to-be-born fifth one.

I found it difficult to work at the bar where I had taken a position. The situation was particularly tough following the rejection from my previous partner. Watching the youngest child endure such pain was heartbreaking, even though they were still very young. This became too much for me to bear, leading me to make the painful decision of giving them over to a children’s home,” she recounted with distress.

Wambui’s sibling is selling their parents’ assets.

Her ordeal was far from over. After missing several months of rent payments, she found herself without a home.

The stress increased dramatically after she chose to go back to her deceased parents’ house, only to discover that her brother had already sold it.

“He brought up this topic previously when I was staying with him for some time. It turned out that he had already sold the property without informing me. This left me homeless with nothing—no money, no food, no home. Everything seemed dire. Our meals consisted of items scavenged from trash bins. I searched desperately for stale bread and scraps to nourish my kids. We slept in hallways as there was hardly enough bedding,” she recounted.

Kind Stranger Saves Wambui and Her Children

A good Samaritan came to Wambui’s rescue by giving her and her children a place to stay and a few utensils to start life with.

What they had wasn’t substantial, yet it was sufficient for their survival as they clung to hope for a brighter future abundant with life and positive experiences.

“It’s difficult for both me and the children. I constantly worry about my child at the orphanage. These other kids depend on me. Often, I venture out searching for odd jobs but come back with nothing. It pains me deeply when they inquire about what I’ve obtained, only to admit that I have nothing to offer,” she sobbed.
