The 11 almajiri children who died when a structure collapsed at a brick-making area in Yardoka village, within the Kubau Local Government Area of Kaduna State, were laid to rest following Islamic traditions.
The incident, which occurred on June 2, 2025, also left eight others hospitalised.
The victims, ranging from 10 to 15 years old, have been identified as Muntari Abdulkadir, Aliyu Abba, Ali Umar, Mubarak Haruna, Usain Isa, Yusuf Shafiu, Mujitafa Jibril, Yusha’u Saidu, Aliyu Abdu, Hamisu Mohammed, and Ali Abdulmomini.
They came from Yardoka and the surrounding villages in the Damau District.
The seven individuals—Umar Dini, Jibir Surajo, Usman Abdulmomini, Sagir Hussaini, Naziru Abdullahi, Aminu Alkasim, and Kabiru Lawal—who were also saved, sustained different levels of injuries. They have been admitted to the Primary Healthcare Centre located in Yardoka, where they continue to receive medical attention.
The Public Relations Officer for the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency, Phillips Dominic, stated that the organization swiftly deployed resources to the location after receiving instructions from Governor Uba Sani.
Dr. Usman Hayatu Mazadu, the Executive Secretary of SEMA, headed a team to visit the village for condolences with the bereaved families and all residents of the community.
“We gave them relief materials to cushion the effect of the disaster,” Dominic said.
“The delegation also met with the approximately seven or eight hospitalized victims, and Governor Uba Sani assured that he would cover all their medical expenses,” Dominic stated to The PUNCH in Kaduna on Wednesday.
In the meantime, the authorities have offered their sympathies to the residents of Yardoka village. Dr. Mazadu stressed the urgent necessity for vigilance as the rainy season starts.
“The disappearance of even one individual due to any catastrophe, whether caused by humans or nature, represents a significant loss for the state,” he stated in a release from the agency’s Public Relations Office unit.

“KADSEMA is currently compiling a detailed report of the incident and the affected families to furnish His Excellency’s office for further action and support,” Mazadu said.
During the visit, the village head expressed profound appreciation for the timely visit and condolences offered by the state government.
“We appreciate the government’s prompt response to this incident,” he said.
