Kathmandu, June 5 — A ceremonial ground breaking took place for a new structure at the Gaureshwar Basic School located in Darshantar within the Nuwakot district on Wednesday.
Constructed with funding from Shanghai Haishan Culture Media Co Ltd, a Chinese firm collaborating with the International Scout Volunteer Group Nepal, this facility—equipped mainly for teaching the Chinese language—will be transferred to the local administration following three years of operations aimed at promoting cultural exchange programs.
The construction of the China-Nepal Language School, known as the Haishan Chinese International Language Institute, signals the commencement of the second phase of the Spark Project in Nepal, as stated by Huang Wenqi from Haishan Media.
In the coming three years, the Academy plans to deliver complimentary top-notch Chinese language instruction to local youngsters and extend monetary assistance to students hailing from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, aiding them in completing their educations effectively.
Huang further disclosed the company’s intention to set up an additional nine Chinese language institutes throughout Nepal, particularly focusing on areas that lack adequate educational resources.
In collaboration with ISVG Nepal, Haishan Media states that they have pinpointed 10 educational locations across the country where they are offering Chinese language classes to more than 1,050 pupils. Besides aiding education, the firm asserts it has handed out subsidies amounting to roughly Rs1.4 million to 13,349 recipients. Additionally, they have contributed cash and materials valued at around Rs2 million aimed at bettering learning environments, backing educators, and enhancing student well-being.
The event held on Wednesday in Ward 4 of Tarakeshwar Rural Municipality took place near vast agricultural lands alongside the Trishuli River banks. It was attended by students, educators, and officials from locations such as Chauri Deurali, Bhumlu, and Bethanchok within the KavrepalANCHOK District. Additionally, pupils from JAJARKOT District, located in the west, participated in this inauguration.
Jin Xiaodong, who serves as the president of the Nepal Overseas Chinese Association, emphasized that the ties between Nepal and China have existed for many centuries. Influenced by Nepal’s cultural and artistic figures, Bhrikuti and Arniko, these relationships will continue to strengthen through ongoing cooperation and interactions, according to Jin.
On this occasion, ISVG President Ajit Khadka expressed his gratitude towards the Chinese organization for offering their support.
Delegates from the Nepali Overseas Chinese Association, the Social Welfare Council of Nepal, the Nepal Red Cross Society, along with representatives from district administration and local governmental bodies, have committed to ensuring the program’s success.
The SWC Deputy Chairman, Nandalal Majhi, attended the event and voiced his optimism that this partnership would assist students in mastering both their native tongues as well as those of other countries.
Chairman of the ward, Hari Bahadur Poudel, stated that this collaboration would prove advantageous for the residents of the area.
