The siblings of a missing British man who disappeared only a few hours after starting a five-day bachelor party in Portugal have initiated a new appeal for details as the investigation moves into its second week.
Greg Monks, a 38-year-old maintenance worker for plants, originates from
Glasgow
He was last spotted in the wee hours of May 28 during the initial night of a five-day bachelor party he was celebrating with buddies in Albufeira, the coastal holiday destination.
Mr. Monks, who is set to serve as a groomsmen at his friend’s wedding, informed friends that he was returning to his vacation rental but hasn’t been spotted since then.
Following this, his relatives have traveled abroad to look for hints about his possible whereabouts.
His sisters, Jillian and Carlyn Monks, are working to spread the word to get any information that might assist Portuguese cops in their search.
Carlyn told
Sky News
: ‘As a family we’re worried sick. It’s so unlike him, but myself and Jillian are just trying to hold each other up back home.’
Jillian added, “He should be at home. We require his presence at home. It’s crucial for him to return to his loved ones, and it’s inconceivable if he’s simply lying around somewhere we cannot locate.”
‘Greg is reserved, puts in a lot of effort at work, and enjoys a contented life with his girlfriend. As an attentive uncle and devoted godfather to our children, he demonstrates strong familial bonds. Greg truly prioritizes family.’
The siblings mentioned that law enforcement informed them their brother was last seen on surveillance footage in the less crowded residential neighborhood of Cerro de Águia, located approximately four miles away from the Novochoro Apartments where he had been staying.
The hill featuring residential areas is located over an hour’s walk to the west of the Albufeira Strip, believed to be where Monks parted ways with his companions.
Jillian mentioned that he has been seen twice wandering alone in the area according to the CCTV footage. The region is primarily residential with a rural setting — full of trees and rocks, making the landscape rather rugged.
The sisters implored individuals in their vicinity to reach out to the nearby police officers should they possess any details regarding their brother’s vanishing.
“If you come across his photo and possess any information, reach out. Should you reside in the vicinity or nearby areas, and own home security systems, kindly review them and contact us,” stated Jillian.
She mentioned that she felt encouraged by individuals who have started looking during their free moments.
We’re receiving substantial backing via social media, particularly from individuals over there who are utilizing their remaining vacation time to venture into this region and search for those missing persons,” she stated. “These volunteers are putting themselves at risk by exploring places where they shouldn’t have to go.
The sisters mentioned they were seeking details about whether he hailed a taxi after his nighttime outing or if he walked to the upscale neighborhood. This distinction was crucial because it would dictate where the search operation should focus next.
‘We want to know if he got a taxi there, if he used his card. He only had his card with him. We want to know if he got a taxi there or are we wasting time searching this area’, Jillian said.
“[The local police] informed us that the case will be handed over to the national police, however, we won’t meet with them or receive an update for at least another one or two days, and unfortunately, we do not have the luxury of time,” she mentioned.
The family fear Mr Monks became lost in the unfamiliar surroundings and may have had an accident.
Health facilities have undergone inspections with no positive results; however, the authorities are believed to haven’t conducted a thorough search of these medical centers yet.
This would entail police officers visiting hospital wards to verify the identities of patients who were admitted without adequate documentation.
Ms Monks has characterized her brother as a ‘highly dedicated individual’ and a ‘reserved person,’ noting that his sudden vanishing ‘raised immediate concerns.’
She mentioned that he sports an incomplete Thor-like Viking tattoo atop his right arm, which could show if he wore a sleeveless top or went without a shirt altogether.
It is reported that Ms Kelso reviewed Mr Monk’s case to identify any missing items. Consequently, the family thinks he was last seen wearing a navy blue Nike shorts and shirt ensemble when he vanished.
A GoFundMe appeal set up on behalf of the family to help support the search had reached more than £14,700 yesterday afternoon.
Mr. Monks’ other sibling, Carlyn, similarly implored individuals via social media platforms when she posted about the family’s request for assistance yesterday.
She penned: ‘Kindly continue to share and assist in bringing my brother back home.’
