Muthoni provided refuge by the chief
The County Commissioner directed the chief to locate accommodation for Muthoni as her case would be addressed over the coming days.
“I was washing my clothes at the tap when three men passed by me. They came back, greeted me, and said they had been sent by the chief. They claimed there were some land documents I needed to sign and said a car was waiting for me. When I got in, I noticed there were knives and machetes hidden under a black mat. They pulled them out and told me to remain silent and not say a word.
We continued driving until we saw a billboard that said ‘Welcome to Embu.’ Close by, there was a forest, and that’s where they brought me along with my children. They subjected me to torture, questioning what I sought in Kirinyaga and why I had an interest in the land. They cautioned me against ever bringing up the topic of land again. They wounded me with stabs, leaving me hemorrhaging as my children looked on,” she recounted agonizingly.
Muthoni’s children watch her suffering helplessly.
It was an emotionally wrenching scene as Muthoni’s young children looked on helplessly while their mother suffered greatly.
Luckily, several locals who happened to be nearby heard the calls for assistance.
“They arrived and took me away, rushing me to the medical facility. I had lost significant amounts of blood as a result of the abuse. The hospital I ended up at was the Embu Level 5 Hospital, where I remained for nearly seven months in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). I had absolutely no information about my kids—I didn’t know whether they were getting food or who might be looking after them,” she recounted emotionally.
