The last sighting of her involved her being with her son prior to her mysterious vanishing.
Three weeks ago, she vanished while in the company of her son, Evans Macharia, who had been living with her up till then. According to locals, they got into a matatu at the Nyakahura Shopping Centre in Murang’a. Days later, the son came back home unaccompanied by his mother. He started residing separately until residents realized that the mother was gone. It was only after this realization that the community alerted the nearby police station about the situation.
The police intervened by arresting the son. During interrogation, he stated that they had visited Thika town together; however, after taking a walk from Christina Gardens in Thika, his mother vanished without warning. He did not inform the officials about this,” as mentioned in the portion of the Facebook post.

The message also indicated that the son’s story contained discrepancies and that “it appears he knows the location where he took his mother.”
He was detained by law enforcement officials as the pertinent authorities proceeded with their probe to find Waithera, who apparently has Alzheimer’s disease.
“There were also reports from neighbors and villagers stating they had heard the mother yelling during nighttime hours, leading them to believe that the son might be mistreating her. Please assist us in locating her. The son needs to disclose her whereabouts,” the message ended.
