A UK tourist has labeled her vacation in Corfu as a “horrible experience” because she found “no English cuisine” during her stay.
Last month, Susan Edwards embarked on a week-long all-inclusive vacation at the Lido Corfu Sun Hotel with her family on a Greek island. However, she described the experience as “terrible right from the moment we arrived.”
The 69-year-old individual spent £750 on this vacation and strongly criticized the hotel’s meal choices, stating ‘we found no edible food available and had trouble getting drinks’.
On her first morning, she had the option of having toast, a hard-boiled egg, or something with sauce. Bacon was not available.
The following morning’s breakfast featured mozzarella and sliced tomatoes. Hot bacon or sausage were not included.
Fortunately, we had chips once, but just for one day out of all the days.
Ms Edwards, who hails from Westerhope, mentioned, “There was fish, including sardines, along with rice – I had grown utterly tired of seeing rice,” she stated.
‘There was pasta and salads, nothing on the menu indicated these items.’
One evening, they hosted a Greek-themed night with kebabs, but I didn’t manage to eat any of them.
‘This is hands down the least enjoyable vacation I have ever had.’
At the all-inclusive venue, guests could enjoy an array of beverages including wine, lager, ouzo, or brandy, along with various soft drink options.
Bottled water cost €1.50, Ms Edwards claimed, who was travelling with her cousins, aged 77 and 78, her daughter, 30, and second cousin, 50.
But the pensioner does not like ouzo and does not drink brandy – so did not enjoy a single drink on her holiday, she claimed.
She explained that she would normally drink bottled lager or one Bacardi and Coke, but this would have cost her €9.
‘By the time we paid £750 for the holiday, Euro 70 tourist tax for me and my daughter and an extra £450 for both of our meals, I could have been to the Caribbean on that’, the furious tourist said.
The Lido Corfu Sun Hotel have said Ms Edwards claims are ‘inaccurate, exaggerated, and in many cases entirely false information’.
‘Ours is an abundant and varied buffet each day, featuring fresh salads, fruits, vegetables, as well as both cold and hot dishes that cater to a range of European and Mediterranean preferences. The notion that we serve “just rice and sardines” is entirely incorrect.’
The four-star hotel boasts ‘breathtaking vistas of the Ionian Sea spread across various terraces adorned with stone, wood, and earthy tones.’
The delightful summer days filled with leisure, combined with top-notch services, ensure your complete contentment as you enjoy an unparalleled experience,” the hotel stated, additionally providing guests with entry to their exclusive shoreline.
Ms. Edwards mentioned that she couldn’t appreciate the private cove since “the slope was too severe for us to reach it, plus it was about 150 yards away from the hotel.”
Ms. Edwards and her family faced an unfortunate holiday right from the beginning when they reached their destination approximately at 2 pm, prepared to savor some meals and drinks following a lengthy trip.
Following her ascent up a sizable incline to get to the hotel lobby, Susan mentioned that she was informed poolside snacks would be available at 5 PM for visitors, allegedly consisting of just “a one-inch piece of baklava,” as per her statement.
The tourist explained she has to be ‘careful’ with her diet ‘because I have ulcerative colitis so there’s certain things I can’t eat.’
Ms Edwards also criticised the lack of entertainment at the hotel which is ‘stuck there in the middle of nowhere’.
Ms. Edwards alleged that the staff was similarly unattentive, stating: “Upon arrival, you have to attempt pulling your luggage up using a ramp located beside the hotel.”
My daughter oscillated back and forth, attempting to lift everyone’s luggage for them.
She expressed feeling let down because she couldn’t get a second key for the room she shared with her daughter.
The vacationer stated: “I requested an additional key for my daughter as occasionally I feel fatigued during the day and prefer not to lie in the sun and risk burning.”
However, if I were to go upstairs for a nap, my daughter wouldn’t be able to enter the room; she’d have to rouse me first. When I requested an extra key, they informed me that it wasn’t possible because “it’s too costly.”
The hotel mentioned that they initially provided her with a second key, but this privilege was later rescinded after discovering she utilized it to keep the air conditioner running non-stop for extended periods—even when she wasn’t present in the room and had opened the windows. This action clearly breached their energy conservation guidelines.
The hotel commented: “Right from the start, it became clear that the visitor was searching for reasons to complain. She voiced dissatisfaction over various trivial issues, including the weather.”
We organize three weekly nighttime gatherings, featuring a Greek-themed event, which take place outside beside the swimming pool and are typically canceled solely due to extreme weather conditions.
‘The beach is located approximately 300 meters away, with access described clearly on our website and partner travel agencies. There is no misleading or hidden difficulty in reaching it.
The hotel caters exclusively to adults, providing a serene ambiance that numerous repeat customers particularly favor each year.
‘A number of additional hotels have subsequently reached out to verify identical conduct and strategies employed by the same person.’
