Cabinet Greenlights Maize Imports for Thriposha Production

June 16, 2025

Sri Lanka, June 3 — The Cabinet has authorized the import of standardized maize needed for the ongoing production of Thriposha, an essential nutrient-rich additive provided nationwide.

Owing to challenges in obtaining adequate amounts of corn from local sources, the Cabinet has approved a proposition put forward by Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa. This proposal enables Sri Lanka Thriposha Limited to acquire an import permit to secure the required corn over a duration of twelve months.

The Sri Lanka Thriposha Limited needs 18,000 metric tons of corn each year, which equates to about 1,500 metric tons monthly, to fulfill their production requirements.

Thriposha plays a vital role in the nation’s nutritional initiatives, being offered at no cost to expectant and nursing mothers, infants older than six months who are underweight, as well as young children below five years old.
