EXPLORE FURTHER: Endangered British cuisine – which ones would you rescue?
British vacationers have come to the defense of a well-liked hotel in Corfu following several negative online reviews from guests, which included an angry grandmother criticizing the lack of ‘English cuisine.’
The Lido Corfu Sun Hotel has received numerous unfavorable reviews.

Throughout May, there was an unrelenting assessment conducted by Susan Edwards, who recently recounted her harrowing experience at the four-star, all-inclusive resort.
Mrs. Edwards, who is 69 years old and hails from Newcastle, spent £750 on a week-long vacation to the Greek island.
criticized the hotel’s dining choices, stating ‘we had no food options available to us and were unable to get anything to drink.’
On her initial morning, she remembered being presented with options of ‘ toast, a hard-boiled egg, or some dish in sauce.’ It did not include bacon. The subsequent day’s breakfast consisted of ‘ mozzarella and sliced tomatoes’ without any ‘hot bacon or sausages.’
She commented, “The menu consisted of fish, sardines, and rice — I had grown utterly tired of seeing rice everywhere. Once, they featured a Greek-themed evening with kebabs, but I couldn’t bring myself to eat them. This has turned out to be the most unpleasant vacation I’ve ever taken.”
In her TripAdvisor review, the grandmother swore she would “never set foot in Greece again,” and advised English tourists to avoid the hotel unless they were content with eating only “tomatoes and olives.”
The Lido Corfu Sun Hotel has refuted Ms. Edwards’ allegations as ‘incorrect’ and ‘overstated.’ However, several devoted patrons have countered criticism from ‘grumpy old people’ and ‘privileged’ vacationers who posted unfavorable comments about the dining experience.
On TripAdvisor, a visitor commented: ‘Ignore those who purchased the least expensive “All-Inclusive” option and expected an extraordinary level of service, typical only of the most demanding and ill-mannered guests.’
‘It’s a fine, charming little place. Close to water, nice food and clean facilities. Thankfully, no British food!’
A frequent guest commended the hotel for its ‘spotless’ atmosphere and ‘excellent’ team, as well as the eatery’s ‘traditional Greek’ cuisine.
Aiming their comment at what seemed to be Susan’s review, they remarked: “This is Greece, not Newcastle upon Tyne.”
There was Scottish cuisine, and it was delightful, but honestly, those Greeks really excel at making their traditional dishes. Can you even fathom visiting Greece without finding authentic Greek food? Wow!
Despite the grumbling from older patrons who moan, “Warburton’s toast doesn’t have any beans,” and insist, “That’s not real English cuisine,” the staff continues to greet them with smiles and goes above and beyond to assist. It’s unfortunate that the benefit seekers eventually showed up.
A Scottish vacationer penned an amusing sarcastic review, stating: “The comprehensive all-inclusive dining and drinking plan was top-notch; they truly make efforts to accommodate Scottish guests.”
We savored pints of Draught Tennant’s lager, had Irn Bru available both diet and regular versions on draft, ate square sausage rolls for breakfast, indulged in Scotch pies and bridies during lunch, and dined on either haggis or minced meat with potatoes at supper time.
They added: ‘Tunnock’s tea cakes and shortbread were available all day, along with Scottish Blend tea. The Greek dishes are also immense, which is a bonus, as Corfu is in
Greece
.’
Along with the food, Ms Edwards complained of ‘inattentive’ staff, ‘steep’ outdoor surroundings, a ‘lack of’ entertainment and general issues with access.
The hotel said: ‘Our buffet is rich and diverse every single day, offering fresh salads, fruits, vegetables, cold and hot dishes that meet a variety of European and Mediterranean tastes. The idea that we served “only rice and sardines” is false.
Right from the moment she arrived, it was clear that the guest was searching for reasons to be dissatisfied. She went so far as to complain about the weather and various trivial issues.
‘A number of additional hotels have reached out to us to verify identical conduct and strategies employed by the same person.’
