June 16, 2025

The impacted locations encompass Aji Garau Herbal Medicine Store, Karkarku Bottled Water, 1165 Bottled Water, Zaiba Bottled Water, Maisalati Bottled Water, Rumaisa Bottled Water, and Al-Ihsan Bakery.

On Wednesday, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) shut down an unauthorized herbal medicine manufacturing plant, along with one bakery and five sachet water plants in Kaduna State.

The impacted locations encompass Aji Garau Herbal Medicine Store, Karkarku Bottled Water, 1165 Bottled Water, Zaiba Bottled Water, Maisalati Bottled Water, Rumaisa Bottled Water, and Al-Ihsan Bread.

Nasiru Mato, the State Coordinator for NAFDAC who headed the inspection team, mentioned that several shut-down facilities failed to fulfill the basic operational standards, whereas others had not been officially registered with the organization.

Mr. Mato stated that the agency is closing down these facilities as they fail to meet basic standards and are extremely unsanitary.

“They are being shut down due to unauthorized production without proper marketing approvals, as investigations continue,” he stated.

The presence of sachet water and other goods bearing the NAFDAC number doesn’t guarantee full registration since individuals can counterfeit these numbers themselves.

“These products are not certified and have not gotten licence from us, so we are closing them down and we will make sure they are not seen in the market for consumption.”

Mr. Mato mentioned that the unlawful manufacturing of the herbal mixture called “AJI GARAU” was happening during his inspection and breached every regulation concerning cleanliness, established practices, machinery, and staff meant to ensure the product’s safety, quality, and effectiveness.

He stated that all items utilized in the manufacturing processes, along with the completed goods, are deceitful and confusing even when they have address details.

The items are confiscated for additional scrutiny while the premises are locked down as an initial form of penalty.

He restated NAFDAC’s dedication to keep pursuing non-compliant producers across every corner of the state.
